Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to
fail. My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my
lips. (Psalm 89:33-34)
A replacement for the word ‘nevertheless’ is ‘in spite of
that’. In order for you to grasp the word in this context, it is important to
read the four verses preceding verse 33. God was clearly defining the extent of
His covenant with David. It extended to his children. God clearly stuck out His
neck for David. He boldly declared that even when David’s generation erred, the
Lord will keep His loving-kindness intact. He said He will not utterly
(totally) take it away.
David had an amazing relationship with the Lord that provoked
this level of favour. It is important to pause at this point and ask ourselves
if the level of our relationship can provoke God’s commitment to that extent. God
is not a gate-crasher. Jesus paid a major prize to demonstrate the Lord‘s love
for His children. It is important for us to embrace it.
God’s kindness is embellished with love that is why it is
called loving- kindness.
God goes on to say that he will not suffer His faithfulness
to fail. God is so faithful. He cannot help but to be faithful. It is His
nature. It is impossible for what makes Him (that is His nature to be faithful)
to suddenly malfunction. I am already excited knowing the extent of His
faithfulness. You that are reading, get excited because God does not have the
capacity to fail. He is the embodiment of faithfulness.
“My covenant will I not
break” says our
heavenly Father. Hallelujah to that. It is like holding a rod that cannot bend
talk more of breaking it. His covenant is cast so it is not possible to shift
the ‘mold’ of His covenant.
“Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my
lips”. God is a promise keeper.
HOLD ON TO HIS WORD.
DEAR
LORD WE RECEIVE GRACE TO TRUST IN YOUR FAITHFULNESS.
