For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of
his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the
righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of
judgement, and preserveth the way of his saints. (Proverbs 2:6-8)
Wow! This is exciting. These verses of scripture stir
up the heart with great excitement indeed. It is God that gives wisdom. The
characteristics of wisdom is clearly defined
in James 3 verse 17 and it reads, “This wisdom is first pure, peaceable,
gentle, easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits,
without partiality, without hypocrisy. The makeup of God’s wisdom is truly a
full package. Embedded in God’s wisdom is good fruit. So among the things we
should look out for when applying wisdom in any area is the evidence of good
fruit. You know there are people you relate with who always harp on the fact
that they are using wisdom to deal with their prevailing circumstances but a closer
look evidences the fact that wisdom was indeed lacking.
God’s wisdom is a complete package and if indeed we must go far in this life and “occupy till he comes” then we just have to ask the Lord to give us his own version of wisdom. The Lord took time to give us the litmus gauge for assessing if we are indeed acting in wisdom. His wisdom is pure. How pure are our actions or is there a snag of impurity? His wisdom is peaceable. That means his wisdom has ability to produce peace? Is your display of wisdom producing peace? His wisdom is also without partiality. How impartial have you been lately? God’s wisdom is without hypocrisy. Is your testimony true in that light?
