And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and
night unto him though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge
them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on
the earth? (Luke 18:7-8)
The story of the persistent widow is very popular. But just
in case you have never read it then here it is. “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to
pray and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not
God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; she came unto
him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
And he would not for a while: but
afterward he said within himself , Though I fear not God , nor regard man; Yet
because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual
coming she weary me.
And the Lord said, Hear
what the unjust judge saith, And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto
him though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them
speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the
earth?” The widow needed vindication
from the judge and she got it eventually after wearing the judge with unending
plea for justice.
However my interest is on verses 7 and 8 where Jesus asked a question about our confidence in how just God is in handling issues that concern us even when our impatience is tolerated by God. The widow stood her ground and was convinced that she would get what she wanted eventually. She was not moved by the treatment of the judge.
It is often amazing how we often conclude easily that just because we prayed in the morning and the answer did not come immediately that God will not answer. Anyway I guess it is because we are “children” of God. After all a child; is usually impatient.
HOLD ON TO YOUR CONFESSION! Trust God!
