LIFT UP YOUR EYES

 

 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. (Psalm 121: 1-3)

King David had come to the realization that the position from where his help come from was not from under him but clearly above him. He had realized that if he was going to go far he needed to keep his eyes fixed above. Notice he said he was lifting his eyes. It requires a level of effort and to keep your head up. But the discomfort of keeping his eyes up was nothing compared to the benefit he was deriving- which was the help he needed to make a head way in life. Often times I wonder how far some people think they can go on their own?

David’s help came from the Lord and one thing that stood out was the fact that “this Lord” happened to be the maker of heaven and earth. Let me ask you who is helping you currently? David recognized the fact that his success was guaranteed because he was connected to the maker of heaven and earth. The One that made heaven and earth has a full understanding of the makeup of the heavens and the earth. And if that is the case then nothing can take our God by surprise or confound him because he is the source and sustainer.

 
The other sweet fact is that our God who is the maker of heaven and earth is also one who will not allow your feet or my feet to be moved. As long you want to take a stand, the Lord will keep you stable. No external force is allowed to move you against your will. Our God does not slumber. No external force can take our God unawares. My heavenly Father has his eyes on me and never loses concentration. I think you should be shouting a loud hallelujah considering the awesomeness of our God. So as you go about your business of the day, rejoice that God is watching over you.

SPARE THE WORDS

 

 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Even a fool , when he holdeth  his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding. (Proverbs 17:27-28)

You know I am always excited when I read verses of scripture from the King James Version. The choice of words is ever so remarkable. Today we come across an emphatic declaration; “He that hath knowledge spareth his words:” Basically the verse is saying that if you think you qualify as one with knowledge, it will show in your verbal frequency. In plain language a talkative does not qualify as one with knowledge. I think the reason is rather obvious. A talkative person says a little too much and most times they lose touch with all they say. Have you ever found yourself talking away among people who just stare at you blankly hoping you would be sensitive enough to keep quiet or have you met people like that?

It is important to slow down a bit when among people. You do not always have to have the last word. Pause a bit, feel the pulse of your environment before you simply misfire. It is important because once you say something offensive, you cannot wipe it off the hearer but you can only apologize. Seriously let me ask, how do you feel when you are around “a human parrot”? I am sure the answer is simply one of displeasure. So the next time you choose to open your mouth be considerate to your listening audience. “And a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.”

And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman’s wife. And she said unto her mistress, Would God my Lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! For he would recover him of leprosy. (2 Kings 5:2-3)

The story of Naaman is quite popular. He was a great general of the Syrian army but he was also a leper. Leprosy is not a disease that anyone would want to experience or identify with. Imagine how this high society or rather national hero felt. The good thing here is he had a wife who had a little maid girl. Little did they know that she would be the key to a life- saving information. The little maid obviously had a good relationship with her boss; which was what gave her courage to speak up and the other part was that her boss was approachable.  This maid had a good heart and her master was doing well too.

 
The issue is that Naaman had a problem or a situation that could not be handled by military intelligence. A little maid was the one who had the strategy needed to overcome the situation. So imagine if the master and mistress of this maid were nasty; I’m sure she would have looked away. However they recognized that she was a human being and she was worth taking care of. Today I ask you that reads; who is around you and how are you treating them. 

I can assure you that being nice does not eat away your dignity rather it adds good to you and opens doors you least expect. Let us therefore be careful not to look down on people around you simple because you are from the same social class. Jesus our mentor mingled with all and also came to take die for our sins. Pay attention to those around you; they just might be your salvation route sometime in future.

CHOOSE YOU THIS DAY

 I call heaven to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That  thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days … (Deuteronomy 30: 19- 20b)

We have often been told that man has a will. It is that will in us all that makes us show resistance when we are being forced to do a thing. However what forms as a guide to our resistance is the knowledge that we have about a thing or issue we want or need to decide upon. Every human being is wired in life to make choices. Your action or inaction in life is a choice.

 
For instance, we know that God will bless the work of our hands. But if you choose to lazy about for the day and not accomplish anything; you have indirectly chosen to fail. The fact that you have a desire to be great is immaterial if you insist that you will not make an effort. If you like base your inaction on the fact that God said the expectation of the righteous shall not be cut off. I tell you that if that is your reasoning, rest assured that you have with your own hands cut of the expectation. God is not a magician and he will not start being a magician in your time.
