Let all the earth fear
the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he spake
and it was done; he commanded and it stood fast. The Lord bringeth the counsel
of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.
The counsel of the Lord standeth forever, the thoughts of his heart to all
generations. (Psalm 33:8-11)
Today’s
verse starts with an interesting tone. “Let
all the earth fear the Lord:” The word Let means to allow or give someone
or something permission without an attempt to stop an action. In other words
the verse is saying allow the earth to fear the Lord. That is understandable
because from Genesis to Revelation we reasons or evidence that remind us of
God’s majesty. Every person that walks around: whether or not it is
acknowledged by them or not has fear for God. They may not categorically
acknowledge it but may imply that they recognize the existence of a Supreme
Being that they afraid of. It is allowed to actually fear God. Knowing that our
heavenly Father is Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent is already a humbling
encounter. Remember the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
“Let all the inhabitants of the world
stand in awe of him”. All inhabitants are enjoined to stand in awe of Him. There is no one that
can match God in His majesty. The verse continues by explaining why we should
stand in awe of the Lord. “For he spake and it was done; he commanded
and it stood fast.” God spoke and what He said was done. It is only our
God that has ability to speak and what He commands is done to the letter. Even
when presidents want certain things done, they seek advice from their national
advisers on strategic matters. Our God does not need to hold any consultation
before He declares His mandate. He has said that His word does not return to
Him without accomplishing what He sent it for. So if God says it is well with you then it simply means that the words released by Him
are embedded with all it takes for wellness to manifest eventually. He
commanded and it stood fast. Who among you can create the sun or the moon or
the oceans and any other replica of His creation?
“The Lord bringeth the
counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none
effect”. A
counsel is an advice usually given by elders or experts on a said matter. The
counsel of the heathen is an advice of experts or elders that do not believe in
God as being. The fact that you do not believe a thing does not always negate
its existence. That the heathen does not believe in God does not negate the
fact that God is. It is for this simple reason that God will always show His
finger which points to His acts to confound the unbelieving and leave them speechless.A
device is an object or equipment made to do a certain job. When the Lord says
he makes the device of none effect it simply means that whatever people can
craft out to do any mischief God will keep it impotent. Remember our God is the
only Potentate.
“The counsel of the
Lord standeth forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.” God is all knowing so when He
declares His point of view on a matter via His word, it has no choice than to
stand. Hallelujah! Through all generations His word cannot change.
