And the word of the Lord came unto
him saying, get thee hence eastward, and
hide thyself by the brook of Cherith, that is before Jordan. And it shall be
that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed
thee there. And it came to pass that after a while, that the brook
dried up….Arise, get thee to Zarephath … and dwell there: behold I have
commanded a widow woman to sustain thee. (1 Kings 17:3-8)
Once again
we will cruise through these verses and see more of the beauty of our God. At
the prophetic declaration of Elijah, the Lord instructed him on the provision for
survival in place. Elijah followed the instruction of the Lord to the letter
and was able to benefit from the provision of our God. I mean it would seem
Elijah was sent on a picnic spree for the next three and half years. Imagine
having a whole brook (a small stream) all to your service and your food being
flown first class to keep you comfortable through your tough season. This
scenario reminds me of the scripture that says that the Lord will be with us in
times of trouble.
“And I have commanded
the ravens to feed thee there.” The instruction of our heavenly Father was very
clear. The ravens had been instructed to feed Elijah no more; no less. The
raven was not there to run any other errand. The Lord is specific in His
approach. Wisdom is profitable to direct. Elijah did not use his office to add
extra to the mandate from heaven. After all Elijah had just stopped rain from
falling for the next three years so it would not be a bad idea if he could also
instruct the ravens but Elijah did no such thing. He did not cross his boundary.
He knew where only God could thread.
Sometime I am amazed at believers and the
way they relate with people. The Lord will always send us helpers of destiny
for specific areas of our lives but I use this medium to plead with us His
children, do not cross the boundary. Do not abuse the help He sends your way.
Respect the help that has come your way. Elijah was the national prophet but he
knew his human limitation. Do not be arrogant as you rise on your ladder of
success.
“And it came to pass that after a while,
that the brook dried up”. What a hard awakening! The brook
dried up after a while. The drying was not immediate. I am sure Elijah would
have told himself that after all it was God that led him to Cherith. Remember I
said earlier that a brook is a small stream. And you would agree with me that a
stream is supposed to be a small flowing
river. So if something is flowing then it suggests that there is a source
for the flow. Anyway the brook dried up. Elijah had gotten comfortable with
God’s style of provision so the Lord decided to show Elijah that He cannot be
boxed in one method. Our God is a progressive God.
“Arise, get thee to Zarephath … and dwell there: behold I have commanded a widow woman to sustain thee.” Earlier the ravens were to feed Elijah now the Lord was ready to take Elijah to a higher level - the level of sustenance. It is not enough to just feed. The Lord is more interested in your sustenance. Lord open our eyes unto sustenance in Jesus name.
Thank you for this very enlightening and indeed indisputable 'lifter.' God is surely a sustainer; he never forsakes us; he is concerned about our needs, and he's willing to grant them. His love for us is great! Bless you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this good epistle. Our God never fails in His Provision.even when our brook dried up a higher and bigger one He will provide.our God is a God of varieties.
