And the Lord said unto
Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the
earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Then
Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? (Job 1: 8-9)
Every time I
look at these verses of scripture, I am always amazed. At the same time I get
into deep thought on the issues that spring up when I read through the verses
of this beautiful chapter. Imagine the scenario, God Almighty is sitting
relaxed and watching over all creation neither sleeping nor slumbering as
usual. I must say our God is awesome.
Somewhere in the midst of Godly duty,
Satan steps into the Lord’s presence and suddenly the Lord cannot hold back and
asks an interesting question. Hast thou
considered my servant Job? Worthy of note is the choice of words in the
question. The Lord did not ask Satan if he has seen or simply “have you heard
about Job?” Rather the Lord specifically chose to ask if Satan had considered Job.
Let me
explain what I mean. When someone categorically asks some to consider another
individual it suggests that the one recommending has taken time to pay
attention to certain qualities that would fit the requirement of the time and season.
For instance, where there is a vacancy to be filled for a job opening, there are
criteria for assessment. In this setting the Lord is clearly recommending.
He knows
fully well that the enemy looks for whom to devour especially one he can easily
override. God was so confident that he read out Job’s resume with excitement. I
have to ask myself at this point, if the Lord were to reel out my resume how
excited would He be? You should ask yourself the same question. In all that we
do we must seek to ultimately seek to please the Lord.
The other thing I noticed was that it was the Lord that started the conversation. Usually when one comes into the presence of a higher authority the usually question is what can I do for you but Job had so impressed the Lord that He needed to praise Job to everyone’s hearing even if the enemy was included in the list of those to appreciate Job’s excellent standing before the most High. My prayer as you go through this write up your heart will be stirred up to stand out before our heavenly Father. Job’s life is truly a major a challenge.
As much as I do not envy him with the gruesome experience he went through but I must say that a recommendation by the Most High is worth everything. It will attract the favour of protection that will preserve life ultimately and a total restoration of all that is lost during the process even a double fold restoration. God is paying attention to our consistency so let us not disappoint. Let us pray God to give us grace in Jesus name.
